Forensic Examination

If you choose to report to the police, they may ask you if you are willing to have a forensic medical examination carried out.

  • It is your choice whether you have a forensic examination or not.
  • You can agree to do some parts of the examination but not others.
  • You can ask for a female to carry out this examination.
  • You can stop this examination at any time.
  • The sooner you have an examination, the more evidence you will have preserved.
  • You can get a forensic examination WITHOUT reporting to the police.

Sexual Assault Referral Centres:
If you are not sure whether or not you are going to report to the police, you can have a forensic examination carried out at a Sexual Assault Referral Centre.
