Counselling

Sexual abuse counselling

The personal impact of sexually violent and coercive behaviour can be devastating, and it is not necessarily true that "time heals all wounds". Whether you are feeling afraid, confused, alone, angry or a multitude of things, a trained counsellor can offer you the support you need - in whatever capacity you feel you need it.

We offer a women-only safe space in all of our venues, and a women-only referral pathway.

OUR SERVICES

How might counselling help?

Talking things through and knowing you are being listened to in a safe environment often helps.

SUPPORT

Your counsellor can help you to talk through the things that are concerning you. They listen without judgement. The aim is to help you feel more in charge of your own life, and to support you if you wish to make positive changes.

STRATEGIES

You will not be told what to do. However, if you are aware of a change that you would like to make but you’re not sure how to go about it, your counsellor can support you towards solutions that are practical, realistic and achievable.

AGENCY

It is up to you how much you share with your counsellor, and you have the right to make your own decision. You do not have to talk about anything that you don’t feel comfortable with. It is up to you whether or not you wish to continue with counselling.

Common Questions

  • How do I make a referral?

All you need to do to make a counselling referral is call 01227 451753. We are open Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00.

We will take a few contact details from you and then arrange a time and date for you to come in for an assessment.

  • What is an assessment?

What we do in the assessment is try to get a sense of what level of support you require at this time, and which of our counsellors you'd be best suited to. We also find out what times work best for you. We can usually book your assessment within 1-2 weeks of your referral.

  • Where can I have counselling?

We are happy to announce that we now have counselling offices in Canterbury, Ashford, Folkstone and Ramsgate.

  • How frequently is counselling and how many sessions?

A counsellor would see you once a week on the same day and at the same time. We initially offer 12 sessions.

  • How much is it going to cost?

Our counselling sessions are completely free. We do accept donations.

  • What do you offer for friends/family/partners?

If you're a friend, parent, relative or partner of someone who has experienced sexual violence, we can offer counselling sessions for you too. We initially offer 6 sessions.

  • How long are the sessions?

Each session lasts for fifty minutes.

  • How long is the waiting list?

Our waiting list for counselling does change depending on the amount of referrals we have each month. However, the more available you are, the faster you are likely to be seen.
